ClapLocate helps you find your iPhone on this device using a clap, whistle, rhythm, finger snap, or optional voice passphrase. It also offers Quiet find, anti-theft alerts, and battery reminders. We do not require an account and do not operate cloud servers to collect your personal data.
1. Data processed on your device
Microphone audio — Used only while you tap Start listening and keep the App on screen, to detect your trained double clap, three-clap beat, whistle, snap, or optional passphrase. Audio is analyzed on device in real time and is not uploaded to ClapLocate or our servers. Training “prints” stay on this iPhone only.
Motion sensors — Used for anti-theft to detect if the phone is moved or picked up. Processed on device only.
Battery & charging state — Used for low/full/charger alerts via iOS APIs, on device only.
Flashlight (camera LED) — Used to blink the torch during find or alarm. The App does not take or store photos for this feature.
Speech recognition (optional) — If you set a voice passphrase, Apple’s speech APIs are used on device when supported. If on-device speech is unavailable, passphrase wake stays off; we do not send audio to the cloud as a fallback.
Face ID / Touch ID (optional) — If you choose biometrics to disarm anti-theft, verification is handled by iOS on device. ClapLocate cannot access your face or fingerprint images.
Vault PIN — Stored as a hashed value in the iOS Keychain, never in plain text and never uploaded.
Return card — Name and phone number you enter voluntarily, shown on screen during an alarm, stored on this device only.
Quiet hours — Your schedule is stored locally to limit find alerts to flash/vibration during set times.
History — Alert events (time, scene type, etc.) are stored in the App sandbox until you clear them.
App settings — Tones, sensitivity, toggles, and preferences are stored locally (UserDefaults and local files).
2. Features not enabled in the current release
The App includes code paths for optional evidence stills and last-seen location pins, but these are disabled in the current release. The current version does not access Location Services and does not capture or store camera photos. If we enable these features in a future update, we will update this policy, disclose it in the App, and request permission before use.
3. Photo library (export only)
If you choose Export from History, the App requests permission to save the selected image to Photos. No other writes to your library occur.
4. What we do not do
No ads; no cross-app tracking via advertising identifiers (IDFA)
No third-party analytics or tracking SDKs
No account or ClapLocate-operated cloud sync
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information
We do not upload microphone audio, training prints, or history to our servers (we do not operate such servers)
5. Permissions
You may grant or revoke permissions in iOS Settings at any time:
Permission Purpose
Microphone
Required for clap/voice find and training. Anti-theft and battery alerts still work without it.
Camera
Controls the LED torch only; no photos.
Speech recognition
Optional, for voice passphrase.
Face ID / Touch ID
Optional, to disarm anti-theft.
Notifications
Optional, for local alerts such as when listening pauses.
6. Important limitations
Because of iOS, microphone listening pauses when you leave the App or it goes to background. This is not Apple Find My and cannot locate your phone remotely over a network.
Quiet find uses flash and vibration without ringing; anti-theft always rings at full alert.
You can clear History, clap prints, Return card, and PIN in Settings / Vault.
7. Retention & deletion
Data remains on your device until you delete it or uninstall the App. Uninstalling removes sandbox data such as history, training data, and settings; Keychain PIN data may also be removed depending on iOS behavior.
8. Children’s privacy
The App is not directed at children under 13. If you believe we have inadvertently processed a child’s information, contact us and we will help you remove local data.
9. Changes
We may update this policy from time to time. The effective date at the top will change when we do. Material changes may be noted in the App.
